Yesterday, a few of my fellow titletholders and I visited the Yountville Veteran's Home for their Flag Day Celebration!
The ceremony and event was presented by the local Elks Lodge. This organization pledges to never forget a veteran for as long as they are present in our country. Their passion and commitment to this promise was shining throughout the event. One man, Bus, performed a poem written by his fallen friend about the true meaning of our flag. It was a beautiful reflection on the sacrifice of our veterans, as well as those who have died in service of our country.
After the ceremony, we had the chance to spend time with the veterans during the barbecue. As I spoke with these vibrant men and women, I was inspired by their experiences in Europe, Vietnam, and Korea. There were even a couple of World War II veterans! It's events like this that remind me how meaningful having a title in the Miss America Organization can be. Being Miss Bay Area gives me the chance to meet incredible people like those at Yountville Veteran's Home, hear their stories, and then advocate for them in the community.
